4/20/04 Sales of Rolling Stone issues (explains why they had Ruben on the cover)

from the Clackhouse
Just had to share this...I had an interview today at Rolling Stone, in an ad department...and we were on the topic of covers and sales of the magazines...blah blah...and so, being a good interviewee I ask what the highest selling cover of the year was...and the answer?

"Hands down, Clay Aiken. It was insane. His numbers were unbelievable. He even sold more than Justin Timberlake. We had some venues that were sold out, and that normally doesn't happen. His sold so well that we decided to put Ruben on a couple of issues later...but Ruben, he didn't sell so well. Kind of mirrors their album sales."

I restrained myself from asking for the lost cover photos.

Heard this from a PA Clay Fan email list...don't know how true it is. Clay will be performing at the York (PA) Fair on Thursday, Sept 16.

So far nothing on the site for the fair York Fair. But supposedly it was announced this morning on the radio and this was posted on a PA Clay Fan Site:

4/19/04     "Open Arms" Kelly/Clay Duet to be on Kelly's CD

LUVclay26 from The ClayBoard

I didn't know where to post this nor if this has been posted yet so I am posting here. When I waited for Clay in KC at the busses, I also got the pleasure to see Kelly. She was really cool and gave autographs and pictures. As she was autographing stuff, she mentioned she is slated to perform on the AI 3 finale. She also mentioned the "Open Arms" duet was such a success on tour that the song as a Clay/Kelly duet will be on her second album. This is what I understand her what she was saying. I would buy her second album anyway, but this is definitely a bonus!
I am the original poster in the AI forum and I am surprised nobody who was at the busses at KC brought this up. Maybe I was the only boardie in earshot when she was telling us this. I hope I didn't hear wrong, but Kelly did say "Open Arms" with Clay would probably be on her second CD. So, don't tar and feather me if I am wrong (this is weird having THE breaking news as I am always the last to know tee hee), but that is what she said as she was signing autographs. Ack at all the typos.

P.S. My right hand (the one that shook Clay's) is still tingleling from KC on Thursday night at the busses. What a couple of days these were!

I thought I heard Kelly say OA, but I could have misheard. Some people are saying it was "Beautiful Disaster" she was talking about. I could have sworn she said "Open Arms" with Clay though. *scratches her head*

Please just know I am not giving misinformation on purpose if I misheard.

TRL Awards

Quote: from berkeleylovesourclay

The Performer Who Came in 2nd Place on American Idol and Still Managed to Wind up on the Cover of Every Magazine and Sell Millions of Copies of His Album.

That is one snarky acknowledgment that Clay is a tremendous success, despite the result of AI2. I love that he received a special award all his own --- isn't that ample proof that TRL realizes that Clay is an important part of their show's success?

Clay's videos have now been on the TRL countdown for 77 days, roughly sixteen weeks when you count a few times the show wasn't on. "Invisible" enjoyed a run that lasted nearly three months, Clay's been on any number of times, including as a guest on the popular New Years Eve show and currently "The Way" is six weeks into the only airplay it is receiving, keeping Clay's music before a very important demographic.

So Clay is nominated for two TRL awards, his name comes up several times during the broadcast and not a negative word, inference or expression happens.

Clay doesn't win the other two awards in his first six months as an MTV artist, but they create a special award to be sure to include him. And this is a snub?

Nah, I'm loving every second of the ride.

Good going, Clay. See you at the AMAs, the BMAs, the Grammys and the MTV awards next year!

From the ClackHouse and posted by a reliable source:

CALLING ALL U.K. CLAY-FANS!~~~Clay is scheduled to perform Sunday, April 18, in London's Royal Albert Hall. It's a special U.K. program called "Stars in the Round": "Stage schools from across the United Kingdom are offered the opportunity to perform... Shows and events are regularly produced for West End theatres, on Broadway, and within the Disneyland Resort Paris. These shows at the Royal Albert Hall are the pinnacle of their efforts."

At the Clayvention in March, it was said that Fran Skinner and Clay would be in NY on Sat. & Sun for the Youth Services Program and then leaving for London after that.

Maybe the schedule has changed since then, but that is what we were told back in early March.
